How Mortar Quantities Are Calculated

Civil engineering mortar calculation relies on converting calculated wet mortar volume to dry volume. Dry cement and sand shrink when mixed with water due to void filling.

1. Cement Quantity (m³) = (Ratio Parts of Cement / Total Ratio Parts) × Dry Mortar Volume

Dry Mortar Volume = Wet Mortar Volume × 1.33. For plastering work, an additional allowance of 20% to 30% is incorporated to cover mortar joints, frog filling, and uneven masonry surfaces.

2. Cement Bags = Cement Volume (m³) × 1440 kg/m³ ÷ 50 kg

3. Sand Volume (cu.ft) = Sand Volume (m³) × 35.315
